  Outdoor albumen view of Lincoln’s home, draped in mourning after his death. Springfield, Illinois, 1865. Unmounted. 8 3/4 x 7 in. 

   

  A somber shot of President Abraham Lincoln’s home draped in mourning after his assassination. The photographer has focused their lens on the large group of gentlemen in a variety of military uniforms and formal suits, all assembled outside the deceased president’s home. Flanked on the right of the house is a small group of women. Some gazes are oriented toward opposing directions, while others are firmly set upon the photographer.

   

  A significant view that memorializes the three-week series of events held to honor the life and memory of the 16th president of the United States following his assassination.
