- Lot Description
Percussion pistol, converted from flintlock during the 19th century. .60 caliber.
Warm patina and pitting throughout. Brass elements exhibit a mellow patina. Stock etched with foliate motif. Remnants of plugged frizzen screw holes to lockplate. Cap nipple is present.
This gun has undergone a number of period modifications, making an accurate determination of its origin difficult. Traces of frizzen screws indicate that it was at one time a flintlock, but neither the curiously shaped and capless butt, nor the fully octagonal barrel, are features commonly found in flintlock pistols.
