Partly engraved Naval Officer's commission signed by Theodore Roosevelt, as President of the United States. Washington D.C. 27 January 1909. 1 page, on vellum, with original blue wafer seal. Signed by Secretary of the Navy Truman Handy Newberry (1864-1945).
A Roosevelt-signed naval appointment for Joseph Fyffe (1874-1942) to Paymaster in the Navy with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. As the appointment was made during the Presidency of Roosevelt, but not confirmed until Taft took office, Fyffe received two appointments for the same promotion, one signed by each president.
Fyffe was the son of Rear Admiral Joseph P. Fyffe (1832-1896) and would go on to serve as Fleet Paymaster on the staff of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War I.
