  Typed Letter signed by William Howard Taft (1857-1930) as Chief Justice of the United States. Point-au-Pic, Canada, 19 August 1922. 1 page, 8 x 8 1/8 in., on Supreme Court of the United States letterhead. 

   

  WITH Photograph of Taft. 4 7/8 x 7 3/4 in. 

   

  A letter signed by former President William Howard Taft declining an invitation to join a local YMCA advisory board. Highlighting his current role as the Chief Justice, he writes that "it is necessary for me to avoid local associations of any kind."
