Wash Day on Plantation. Full-length albumen outdoor stereoview. New Orleans, Louisiana: S.T. Blessing, 1875. Publishers' imprint to print, identification, and gallery series to mount recto. Modern ink “Louisiana/ Wash day on the plantation/ Mrs Marian R. Crawford” to mount verso.
Stereoview of an African American woman seated and crouched near a wooden washtub, her gaze directed at the photographer’s lens. Water drips from the cloth in her hands. Her feet are bare, and she is dressed in all white, with a cloth wrapped around her head. Stacks of laundry are lined up behind and to the sides of her. An intriguing photo of day-to-day life in Louisiana.
