  HENRY "LIGHT-HORSE HARRY" LEE BOLDLY SIGNED LAND GRANT AS VIRGINIA GOVERNOR

   

  Partly printed document completed in manuscript. Signed by Henry Lee III (1756-1818), as Governor of Virginia. Richmond, Virginia,  13 September 1792. 1 page, 15 x 12 1/4 in. 

   

  A fine, bold signature of Henry Lee III, affectionately known as "Light-Horse Harry" in recognition of his brilliant command of cavalry in the Continental Army. A close friend of George Washington, he served as the 9th Governor of Virginia from 1791 to 1794. Notably, he is the father of the noted Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
