• Lot Description

  Silver gorget. [Albany, New York: John Folsom, ca. 1780]. Recto engraved with a foliate "RB"; verso with three marks of "JF" in rectangle, the mark of New York silversmith John Folsom. 

   

  The gorget was a significantly less popular accouterment among Continental soldiers than among the British and other Europeans. As such, this is an exceedingly scarce piece. 

   

  This example exhibits very light wear and virtually no tarnishing. The intended recipient, perhaps a military officer with initials "RB", is unknown, but similarly foliated script monograms seem to be a staple across Folsom's known works.
