  Manuscript receipt. Dallas County, [Alabama], 27 July 1847. 1 page, 8 x 5 1/8 in. 

   

  A receipt to the estate of Thomas Tramell, charging $6.00 for "Taking up Runaway". The bill also includes a "Justice Fee" ($1.00) and a "Jail Fee" ($2.00), as well as $1.00 for the Jailer ("Turn Key"). 

   

  A rare Alabama documenting the prevalent business of slave catching.
