Autograph document signed by John F. Brockinton (1788 - 1853). [Williamsburg, South Carolina], 21 April 1853. 1 page, 5 7/8 x 15 in. Docketed to verso.
A fascinating bill recorded by John F. Brockinton for Peter O. Fulton (1827 - 1858), recording charges from 14 April 1851 to 21 April 1853, totaling $76. The bill includes charges for visits and various remedies. Notably, of the 49 entries, at least 11 are for extracting teeth for the enslaved individuals owned by Fulton - at a cost of $1 per tooth.
The 1850 Federal Slave Schedule records that Peter O. Fulton enslaved at least 60 individuals and John F. Brockington enslaved at least 36 in Williamsburg, South Carolina.
A rare document recording dental care administered to the slaves owned in antebellum South Carolina.
