• Lot Description

  United States Commissioning Pennant. Wool. Two stripes, red and white, with blue section featuring seven white, 5-pointed stars. Small hoist with grommet and faded stamped lettering. Length 4 ft. Inscription to hoist verso with "LST 915" and with date "25 May 1945." 

   

  WITH Naval shipyard worker ID: "Owen Robert." 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 in. Outfitted with 14 pins. 

   

  A fine commissioning pennant of Landing Ship, Tank (LST) 915. The USS LST-915 was a tank landing ship in the United States Navy during WWII. It was launched and commissioned in 1945 and decommissioned on 25 June 1946. It was entered into the Pacific Theater May 1945 for combat after going through the Panama Canal, as was tradition with ships entering the Pacific. Performing occupational duty in the Far East, LST-915 assisted with operations in Guam, Saipan, and Okinawa, carrying prisoners back home. 

   

  Included with this excellent item is the worker ID of the shipyard worker who obtained the commissioning pennant from the ship after spotting it post-decommission. His ID is clustered with a variety of service and personal pins, adding an interesting and personalized touch to the already intriguing provenance.
