Closely associated with the Mexican School of Painting, artist Gustavo Montoya was born in Mexico City in 1905, and began his art studies at a young age. Montoya attended the Academia de San Carlos and studied under artists German Gedovius and Roberto Montenegro. Though Montoya traveled and worked for a time in Europe and the United States, Gustavo Montoya paintings most notably portray the cultural themes of Mexican life.
While he primarily placed emphasis on muralistic techniques and Neo-Realist portraits, artist Gustavo Montoya also painted exquisite still life pieces of Mexican food and lively scenes of Mexico's streets and markets.
The most in-demand Gustavo Montoya portrait paintings for sale feature colorful portrayals of Mexican children among simple backgrounds
