This painting is part of the Cherry Leg Series. This series reveals a sense of acceptance or contemplation interconnected with natural elements. Early paintings in this series can show a forward movement of strength is seen in the figurative leg at the center of each painting with the action of contemplation happening at the knee joint--a symbolic location; a physical point of heavy burden.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Brooklyn born artist, Maria Kastan's artwork focuses on painting, drawings and assemblage sculpture. She studied painting with Lennart Anderson and William T. Williams in Brooklyn, NY. Maria Kastan has shown at the Arad Biennale, Romania, Tuscon Desert Art Museum, The Seligmann Art Center, The WAH Center and in many international galleries. She has permanent work in public collections such as the MIDAC Contemporary Art Museum, Italy, Brooklyn College CUNY Library, The Brooklyn Art Library, with a mural at Lincoln Hospital, Bronx, NY. Most recently she showed her work with Binoche Fine Art Gallery at Art Miami 2024.
