Executed with expressive brushwork and a restrained palette of cool blues, greys, and earth tones, the composition captures the quiet transition between winter and spring that became a hallmark of Canadian landscape painting. Signed lower right. Framed. A label affixed to the reverse identifies the scene as Spring in Algonquin Park c.1917.
Tom Thomson is regarded as one of Canada's most important landscape painters and a foundational influence on the Group of Seven.
