Ted Jordan is an American painter, designer, and educator. Born in Ohio, he earned his BFA from Miami University and an MFA from the University of Iowa. In 1972, he worked in New York as a painter and performance artist before teaching art history at [Lake Erie College](https://lcweekly.com/arts/art/tribute-recent-drawings-by-ted-jordan/).
In 1974 Jordan left teaching and joined American Greetings and Hallmark Cards, where he served as Design Director and famously pioneered the Mahogany card line, celebrating the Black experience. He now lives and teaches fine art on Hilton Head Island.
This painting evokes that feeling of suspension a body feels while floating underwater. Very few of Jordan's canvases exist. The majority of his work since 1974 has been on paper or card.
