Outstanding preening mallard hen, Bert Graves, Peoria, Illinois, 2nd quarter 20th century. Hollow carved with original Graves weight. Branded "JLS" on underside. Superb original paint by Catherine Elliston. Head is turned and reaching backwards over approximately 2/3 of the back, exposing a brilliant almost sunburst paint color that extends from the lower area of the neck to the bottom of the breast. 14" long. Randy Root purchased this decoy from Virgil Lashbrook of Pekin, Illinois in the mid 1970s. “JLS” remains an unidentified member of the Pekin and Spring Lake Hunting and Fishing Club.
