- Lot Description
2.5x7". c.1888. Indiana hopeful silk ribbon w/fringe. Gresham was a prominent figure in Indiana, serving as a federal judge, as well as the Secretary of the Treasury under Chester Arthur and the Secretary of State under Grover Cleveland. He was a man of many partisan hats, beginning his political career as a Whig, before moving to the American (Know Nothing) Party during the 1850s. He landed in the Republican Party for the next three decades, ultimately making a bid for the Republican nomination in 1888, before crossing the aisle to the Democratic Party for the remainder of his life from 1892-1895. Creases at bottom left & top right. Darkening along ornamental border w/red bakground. VF.
