- Lot Description
A Napoleonic-era British Pattern 1796 Infantry Officer’s smallsword with the blade decorated with bluing and gilded etching in panels; featuring classical trophies of arms, laurel wreaths, helmets, and other martial symbols. Gilded bronze guard with neoclassical motifs.
Finely turned wire-wrapped grip (silver wire over wood). Faceted urn-shaped pommel with ball finial. Knuckle bow engraved with decorative elements.
Britain, c. 19th century.
L: 37 1/4 in., (94.6 cm.)
Condition
Moderate pitting and oxidation, especially near the tip. Gilding and bluing well-preserved near the hilt detailing still crisp. Structurally straight and intact.
