Comprising six matching teaspoons executed in silver with niello decoration, each with a twisted handle terminating in a baluster-form finial and a tear-shaped bowl finely decorated in traditional niello with scrolling foliate and geometric ornament arranged around a vacant oval reserve, likely intended for engraving or monogramming. The reverse of each spoon gilt to the bowl, with the niello work in strong contrast against the polished silver ground. Each spoon stamped with Russian hallmarks including the 84 zolotnik silver standard, together with a maker’s mark "B.C" and additional assay marks consistent with 19th-century Russian production. The set housed in its original fitted presentation case, the exterior covered in red leather, the interior lined in purple velvet with silk-lined lid. Such cased silver niello spoon sets were customary luxury table or tea service accessories in Imperial Russia, produced by specialized workshops and prized for both decorative refinement and practical use.
Weight: 5 oz., (142 g.)
L: 5 in., (12.1 cm.)
General wear consistent with age and use. The spoons with surface scratching, light wear to the niello decoration, and gilded bowls showing rubbing and attractive toning. Hallmarks remain legible.
