- Lot Description
Of rustic character, the cane formed from a natural section of wood retaining its organic contours and knots, fitted with a curved horn handle of hook form. The junction mounted with a collar and wrapped section incorporating animal hide or skin, creating a contrasting texture between the dark horn grip and lighter wooden shaft. The lower end terminating in a metal ferrule with protruding spike, designed for stability on rough ground.
The overall construction suggests a utilitarian shepherd’s or country walking stick rather than a formal urban cane, likely European in origin and dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The horn handle, shaped with a downward curving beak-like tip, reflects practical rural craftsmanship rather than factory production.
