A German school hand-colored engraving depicting an Ottoman ruler mounted on a white Arabian horse, shown in profile within a lightly landscaped setting. The rider is portrayed wearing a turban and flowing robe, holding a ceremonial mace or staff, while the horse is finely proportioned and richly caparisoned. The composition reflects the strong European fascination with Ottoman power, costume, and cavalry traditions during the 18th century, combining ethnographic detail with a romanticized vision of the East. The image bears its bilingual title "Türkisches Pferd / Cheval Turc" at the upper margin and is accompanied by verses printed in both German and French below, characteristic of illustrated equestrian and costume series produced for a learned European audience.
The print is titled "Türkisches Pferd / Cheval Turc" and was engraved by Martin Engelmann (1683–1756) after a design by Johann Elias Ridinger (1696–1767). Origin: Germany. Period: 18th century. Provenance: part of a private Belgian collection. The engraving is presented in a later gilt wooden frame with wide mat.
17 1/2 x 13 1/8 in., (44.5 x 33.5 cm.)
The sheet with even age toning consistent with age. The hand coloring remains vibrant and well preserved.
