- Lot Description
This large Kukri comes in its leatherbound, brass-mounted scabbard with one of its two smaller blades (chakmak & karda), possibly the karda. Kukri are Nepalese short swords known for their uniquely curved design and functionality as a multitool. This example exhibits a groove ('khol') near the hilt showing waves within a blade. The notch, or 'kaudi,' seen on the base had various practical and ceremonial uses in Nepali society. The handle is made from a horn with a brass butt cap ('chapri') at the end. The scabbard's brass plate displays depictions of the sun god, Surya, surrounded by solar motifs, and the image of a fish, a possible representation of a god/goddess's avatar. The sheath for the two smaller blades rests on the scabbard's back.

Condition
Very good with light signs of wear and use. The rear sheath is partly separated from the scabbard. Missing one of the smaller blades.
