A rare and unusual rotating breech pistol designed by the innovative French gunsmith Beatus Beringer in the 1830s, featuring a brilliantly patterned damascus steel barrel, delicate foliate engraving across every other metal surface, and a nicely fluted wooden grip. The mechanism is worked by first putting the gun into half-cock, then depressing a lever on the underside of the receiver, allowing one to then rotate said lever and the breech block to which it is connected. The ammunition can then be loaded and the breech block put back into place before fully cocking the gun and firing.
Bore: .38 caliber.
France, 19th century.
L: 17 1/4 in., (43.8 cm.)
Very good with expected minor signs of age including some very light pitting in spots. Brown finish well preserved to barrel, damascus pattern highly visible. Engraving on receiver well preserved. Minor chips and scratches to wood grip. Mechanism functions well.
