- Lot Description
A Caucasian riding crop comprising a handle of wood decorated with silver inlay in intricate linework, creating concentric, diamond-like patterns containing geometric symbols at their center. The tip of the wooden shaft is mounted with white-metal capped with horn, the pommel likewise capped with horn but also with a bone and brass trim. The crop is made from raw hide or leather, as is the wrist loop.
Caucasus, 19th century.
Handle L: 18 in., (45.7 cm.)
Condition
Some vertical cracks in wood near tip of wooden handle. A small crack to top of horn cap at tip of handle. Some minor raising on silver inlay in places but almost all inlay still present.
