- Lot Description
A beautiful example of an Ottoman flintlock pistol, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, and richly decorated in traditional Balkan or Turkish style. The flintlock of a characteristic design for the Ottoman Empire during this period. The wood stock is heavily carved and fitted with intricate silver mounts, extending from the smoothbore 18 mm. barrel band to the pommel. The chased silver overlay with floral and arabesque motifs, common in Albanian, Bosnian, or Turkish workshops. Large flared butt with engraved cap is typical of Ottoman and Balkan pistols.
This type of pistol was not only a weapon but also a status symbol, often carried by high-ranking officers or tribal leaders.
