A post-war abstract composition executed in a sculptural relief technique, building form through dense impasto and aggregated mixed media. Organic, possibly zoomorphic forms appear to emerge from a layered chromatic field dominated by earth pigments, sienna, umber, deep blue, and mineral ochre. The textured topography of the surface and the inscription “RELIEF†on the stretcher directly align with the artist’s known experimentation with tactile paint structure during the late 1940s–1950s. The verso label title “Wolf Head†suggests an early interpretation of the central form, consistent with European Art Informel and early Abstract Expressionist semi-figurative tendencies.
