The clock is surmounted and supported by a finely cast bronze figure of a Renaissance musician standing in contraposto, depicted playing a flute and dressed in period costume with hat, doublet, and hose, the figure dark-patinated with traces of original gilding. The clock case formed as an oval cartouche executed in polychrome painted enamel, richly decorated with scrolling foliate borders and cherubic figures, the dial centered by a hand-painted pastoral and allegorical scene and fitted with Roman numeral hour chapters and outer minute scale. The reverse of the clock face is further painted with a classical pastoral vignette framed by delicate blue and gilt scrollwork. Flanked on both sides by scrolling gilt-bronze handles and surmounted by a spread-winged eagle finial. The domed enamel base is decorated en suite with mythological and pastoral scenes and supported on four scrolling gilt-bronze feet. The underside shows characteristic hand-painted squiggle decoration to the enamel and retains evidence of original construction and mounting.
H: 11 1/2 in., (29.2 cm.)
Overall good condition consistent with age. The enamel is well-preserved. Bronze elements with patina. Movement not tested.
