The shallow dish painted in underglaze blue, iron red, and emerald green enamels in the classic Imari palette, the front divided into alternating fan-shaped reserves enclosing stylized landscapes with bamboo, flowering branches, pine, rocks, and foliage, separated by dark blue panels with gilt highlights. The central medallion painted with floral sprays within a double blue line border. The reverse decorated with underglaze blue sketch motifs around the rim and retaining an old metal hanging mount applied for wall display, as customary for early export porcelain. The composition, palette, and loose yet confident brushwork are characteristic of early Edo-period Arita ware produced for the domestic and export markets.
D: 14 3/4 in., (37.5 cm.)
Good condition overall.
