The steel blade with punched workshop marks near the base, mounted with a gilt-bronze hilt in the form of a feline head with open jaws, inset eyes, and engraved details. The wooden scabbard is clad in gilt-bronze pierced floral panels over a red ground.
Based on the decoration, animal pommel, and construction, this example most likely belongs to the late 18th to early 19th century, during the late Mughal or early Qajar period.
Such daggers were status weapons, worn at the waist as part of court dress or gifted to retainers.
The animal-head pommel is especially associated with Mughal India and Qajar Persia, both influenced by earlier Timurid and Safavid traditions.
L: 13 in., (33 cm.)
The scabbard is original, but it has several small dents, and the blade is lightly scratched; it fits the scabbard well.
