This is a North African or Ottoman saddle, most likely from Morocco, Algeria, or the broader Maghreb region, dating from the 18th to early 19th century. The tall pommel and cantle (front and back of the seat) are characteristic of Berber or Moorish saddles, providing support for long-distance riding and combat. The wooden frame is covered in leather and adorned with brass or bronze studs and mounts, both decorative and functional. Brass studding and iron rings: the dense metal studding on the pommel and cantle, along with ring attachments, are typical of high-status ceremonial or military saddles from this region. Ornamentation: the brass discs and fittings may have held additional tack or decorations like saddle cloths or stirrup fittings.
Such saddles were used by Moorish cavalry, Berber horsemen, and Ottoman-influenced troops. They are often associated with status and ceremony, though fully functional for riding.
L: 18 1/2 x 22 x 17 1/2 in., (47 x 55.9 x 44.5 cm.)
Very good with expected signs of wear and age. The leather overall is very well preserved.
