Attributed to Ilya Ivanovich Mashkov (Russian, 1881–1944), titled "Still Life with Fruit and Fish", early 20th century.
A bold and vibrant still life composition featuring richly hued grapes, pears, apples, and a silver fish resting on a ceramic plate. The fruit is arranged on a white draped cloth before a strikingly patterned textile background. Strong contrasts of color, a sculptural use of paint, and a dynamic composition align with the stylistic hallmarks of Ilya Mashkov, one of the founding members of the Jack of Diamonds group and a key figure in early Russian avant-garde painting.
This work exemplifies the artist's affinity for traditional subjects expressed through a modernist, Post-Impressionist vocabulary.
