Title: Rare 1950s Rolex Milgauss 6541 Original Tropical Pink Dial Running Watch Fresh From Florida Estate As Is
Description: This is an amazing watch, fresh from an estate barn find, one of our best barn finds to date.
The info in the booklet reads as follows:
“THE ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL
MILGAUSS
Several years ago there was no real need for a timepiece
such as the Rolex "MILGAUSS". But in the world of
today, where science has made such impressive progress,
where its importance has outstripped that of other fields
of research and where the rocket, the orbiting satellite and
even journeys to the moon are the subjects of ordinary
conversations, more and more people have need of a watch
which will give them the exact time when they are working
in high magnetic fields.
Without going into technical explanations, a "GAUSS"
is a unit used for measuring a magnetic field in the same
way as an "ampère" is used for measuring electric cur-
rent or an inch is used for measuring distances. It is a
relatively small unit and it is not uncommon for man, in
his ordinary everyday life, to find himself in magnetic
fields of 40 gauss of more.
As most good watches will work correctly in magnetic
fields of up to 60 or 70 gauss, the problem of magnetism
did not greatly affect the watchmaker.
In latter years, however, such specialised personnel as
scientists, engineers, electricians, technical chemists and
physicists have been constantly working in high magnetic
fields which affected the regularity of their watches. Now,
added to these, are the doctors, nurses, masseurs, labora-
tory personnel and many others whose daily life throws
them into contact with modern machines which emit magne-
tic fields of considerable intensity.
These people need, nevertheless, to know the time and
prefer to have it with them, constantly . .. on their wrists.
Thus the problem has grown and Rolex are proud to be
able to help to solve it with their latest model : The Rolex
Oyster Perpetual "MILGAUSS" which, as its name implies,
is capable of working in magnetic fields up to one thousand
gauss. ROLEX
OYSTER PERPETUAL MILGAUSS
ROLEX NINGAUSS
A special Officially Certified Chronometer capable of work-ing in magnetic fields up to 1000 gauss.
.
The precision of this chrono-meter is protected by its Oyster case unconditionally guaran-teed 100% waterproof to a depth of 165 feet under water.
