Richard Proctor joining the University of Washington faculty in 1962, where he became an assistant professor in 1964 and associate professor in 1970. Active in the national Surface Design Association and Northwest Designer Craftsmen (serving as president from 1968-1970), Proctor shared his time between Seattle and Whidbey Island with his life partner Ron Childers, where he became a founding member of the Island Arts Council in 1979 and chaired Langley's Design Review Board from 1985-1991. Together, Proctor and Childers founded the Childers/Proctor Gallery in 1983, which operated in Langley until 1999. Throughout his career, Proctor published two influential books: The Principles of Pattern for Craftsmen and Designers (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1969; new edition 1976; republished by Dover as Principles of Pattern Design in 1990) and Surface Design for Fabric, co-authored with Jennifer F. Lew (University of Washington Press, 1984; revised edition 1995).
Good condition with light discoloration. Top right corner has a one-inch hole. Silk has wear along the edges. Three quarter-inch discoloration near the bottom edge.

Winning bidders are responsible for all costs to ship their items, unless otherwise stated. We offer in-house shipping and will ship using UPS, FedEx, or USPS. NOTE: Hughes is a small company that offers in-house shipping as a convenience to our buyers. In-house shipping can take up to three weeks. If you need shipping sooner, please use a third-party shipping company in our area. We are happy to provide you with a list of local shippers that you can contact.
Please note that lighted signs (neon, bulb, and channel) in the Dec 7th auction will be available for local pick up in Van Nuys and not our regular Sunland warehouse location. If in-house shipping is used, custom crating will be used and the cost of the crate is in the listing of each sign. Buyers are welcome to use a third party shipper.
