D “O.V.V.I.” The edge of star chased with saw tooth border, and the obverse and verso of each star point hand-engraved with the various engagements and dates in which Co. D of the 66th Ohio was engaged in, including PT. Republic – June 9, 1862, Cedar Mt. – August 9, 1862, Antietam – September 17, 1862, Dumfries – December 27, 1862, Chancellorsville – May 1, 2, & 3, 1863, Gettysburg – July 1, 2, & 3, 1863, Lookout Mt. – November 24, 1863, Missionary Ridge – November 25, 1863, and Taylor’s Ridge – November 27, 1863, and with original hinged pin and latch. Length 2.5 inches. The finest example we have ever seen.
Corporal James F. Bain(e) entered service in October of 1861 and mustered out in June of 1865.
