Wood's second trip to Europe in 1923-1924 produced many sketches not only of scenes in Paris but of nearby provinces. Moret-sur-Loing, a medieval town Fontainbleu southeast of Paris, was frequently painted by the Impressionists Monet, Renoir, and Sisley. The offered painting depicts a truck garden (a garden grown for town markets) near Moret and is painted with the clear light and the brushstrokes of Impressionists in mind.
The sketch for this painting (12.75 inches x 15.75 inches) is currently held by the Figge Art Museum, Davenport, Iowa.
