ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, "1/2" gallon capacity mark, squatty semi-ovoid form with an incised ring below the collared neck and flat-top rim, straight cut-off lines under base. Brushed cobalt "Alexandria Motif" sunflower and foliage decoration on front and two horizontal feathered-leaf ornaments on reverse shoulder. Probably Benedict Calvert Milburn (1805-1867), Wilkes Street pottery; possibly Milburn at Hugh Charles Smith's (1804-1854) Wilkes Street pottery. Circa 1847-1861. 7" H, 5 1/2" D rim.
