AMERICAN FOLK ART CARVED SOFTWOOD FIGURE OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN, an enigmatic example, well executed, of Lincoln just sitting down upon, or just rising up from, a bench with hand on top hat resting beside him, all raised on a shaped base with punched ground. Inscribed "Abraham Lincoln" at base and signed "??SE / Pa" to underside. Carved from the solid. Likely original dry surface with what appear to be areas of pencil shading. Possibly Pennsylvania. Early 20th century. 3 3/4" HOA, 3 3/4" WOA. Provenance: From an Alexandria, VA private collection.
Excellent condition overall with small loss to back of bench and very minor area of hat rim at back as well.
