AMERICAN, PROBABLY PENNSYLVANIA, CHIPPENDALE CARVED WALNUT ARMCHAIR, the shaped crest rail featuring bold outswept ears ending in carved volutes over a solid vasiform splat flanked by curvilinear outswept arms ending in carved "knuckles" and volutes at hand rests, above a trapezoidal seat frame with shaped and molded rails, all raised on substantial square legs with inside chamfer, joined with rear, side, and medial off-set stretchers. Old oak slip-seat frame. Fine old surface with rich, dark color. Fourth quarter 18th century. 38 3/4" HOA, 17 1/2" x 22 1/2" seat. Provenance: From a private Loudoun Co., VA collection.
Very good overall condition with areas of wear to surface. Corner blocks replaced. Small pieced repairs to crest, arms, and seat rails.
