ASSORTED SHEET-IRON LIGHTING ARTICLES, LOT OF TWO, each with japanned finish, comprising a small/pocket size candle lantern, three sides with glass panes including one which slides upward, wire handle to top and reverse with strap handle, fitted with a single-socket holder and nickel-plate reflector; and a dark/policeman's whale oil lantern, single bullseye lens with interior shutter, double-wire handles, fitted with a circular sheet-iron font and double-tube burner. 19th century. Candle lantern 6 1/2" HOA, 5" H to top of cap, 2" x 3"; policeman 6 3/4" H to top of cap, 3 1/8" D base. Provenance: From a Virginia private collection.
Candle lantern in very good condition with expected minor wear, remaining example in fair condition, lacking sliding shutter button, denting to base, and lens with an area of abrasions.
