painted with a serrated cobalt blue border, above a yellow, ocher and blue quail on a brown branch issuing green leaves, with stylized brown and ocher flowerhead above grasses, two V-formations of birds in the distance, all above a cobalt blue band above the lower edge. The short sides each painted with additional foliage. Unmarked. Circa 1800-1820. 3 13/16" H, 5" W, 3 3/8" D.

Catalogue Note: Sherds with the identical decoration as this lot have been found at various excavations in the U.S., including three sites in Virginia (Colonial Williamsburg; the Massie Farm Property; Gadsby's Tavern) and one, in New York City, at 7 Hanover Square.
Good condition. Cover absent. Small chip to upper edge, crazed, with consistent discoloration.
