HARRIET EMELIA BICKING (1813-1894), PENNSYLVANIA NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen, featuring three rows of letters above a four-line verse and inscription "1827 / Harriet Emelia / Bicking's Sampler / Made in the 16th / Year of her age", flanked by "H" and "B", flower baskets, and birds, another flower basket, "SM", and other ornaments, all within an undulating floral vine. Period frame, possibly original. 1827. 18 1/2" x 18 1/2" sight. Catalogue Note: Harriet Bicking married James Guie (1808-1893) in 1830. The couple lived in Chester Co., PA and had seven children. Guie and his sons owned and operated the Laurel/Eagle/Guiesville paper mills.
Fair condition, staining and soiling, small hole to lower left corner, another smaller hole in lower field. Not examined out of frame.
