NEW YORK / NEW ENGLAND FIGURED MAPLE AND PAINTED PINE SEWING BOX, comprising a stepped center with single drawer framed by a cutout rear crest and sides, raised on a shallow base with single full-length drawer. Secret drawer in the rear of the upper section and the top of the base slides off to reveal a secret compartment behind the lower drawer. Tiger and birds-eye maple combined with red- and black-painted surfaces, crest with black decoration surrounding the cut-out. Original opalescent pressed Sandwich glass knobs. Excellent original dry surface throughout. Circa 1830. 9" HOA, 12 3/4" x 11 1/4" base. Provenance: From the Ed and Kay Winnick collection, Sidney, NY.
