STAMPED "A (STAR) GAY / UTICA", NEW YORK DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, bold ovoid form with incised shoulder ring, grooved arched handles, and low galleried rim with inner ledge for cover, brown-slip glazed interior. Brushed cobalt floral decoration below the stamp, additional cobalt across stamp. Together with an associated ill-fitting cover. The pottery of Amos Gay. 1828-1830. 9 1/4" H, 5 3/4" D rim.
