- Overbeck 1911-1955 Folk Art Pottery Hand Crafted Bearded Gentleman Figurine
- Whimsically hand-modeled Overbeck figurine of a long-bearded gentleman in bright attire, featuring playful proportions, lively glazing, and signature Arts & Crafts folk charm.
- Excellent original condition. No chips, cracks, damage or repair of any kind.
- Bottom marked with the Overbeck Pottery logo.
- Figurine is 5 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" wide.
- The Overbeck sisters (Margaret, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Mary Frances) were influential American potters and artists associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement. In 1911, they founded Overbeck Pottery in their home in Cambridge City, Indiana, with the goal of creating original, high-quality, hand-crafted ceramics as their primary livelihood. They gained recognition for their whimsical figurines, modeled on real-life people or “grotesques†which Mary called “humor of the kiln.†The sisters independently managed all aspects of their artistic venture until 1955, when the last sister passed away, leading to the closure of the pottery. Through their dedication, the Overbeck sisters achieved economic independence and earned a modest living from their art.
