  67. Bamboo Day Cane -Ca. 1900 -Fashioned of a single square bamboo shoot with an integral L-shaped handle embellished with white metal cap and collar and an iron ferrule. Characterized by a pleasing simplicity, it aged literally to a golden turn with a beautiful, clean and warm toned surface. Here the impossible seems possible and we face the difficult question to answer: Does square bamboo grows anywhere in the world, could it be that this shoot was grown in a square mold, was it carved in this edgy shape or is it eventually a fantasy of nature? Whether this query can be answered or not does not diminish the appeal of this intriguing item. In any case, this cane was for long years the property of a well-known character of the cane collector’s community from the 1970s, who always awakened the curiosity of every interlocutor with his square bamboo cane and triggered exciting and never ending walking stick conversations. -H. 6 ¼” x 5 ¾”, O.L. 34 ½” -$200-$400
