Ca. 1900
A finely proportioned mid-size knob, gracefully elongated with a straight taper and a subtly raised, rounded top, setting the tone for this distinguished piece.
The body is adorned with three exquisitely chased and engraved alle-gorical panels, suspended on knotted ribbons in the grand tradition of the 18th-century French Beaux-Arts style. The panels are executed with remarkable precision, and framed by delicately raised, crossed ring bands.
The surface, matted and gilded to a luminous finish, further elevates the artistic detailing, catching the light with a quiet opulence.
A rarely encountered black lacquer shaft and metal ferrule further enhance the knob and adds contrast and refinement.
