Ca. 1920
A sizeable and plain whitish jade bowenite ball knob of a uniform, milky pale green color and velvety, matted surface. The ball comes with a longer, plain, gilt-metal collar on a well-streaked laurel shaft, with delicately carved knots to simulate bamboo, and a white-metal ferrule.
A characteristic sense of luxury shines through this exquisite, well-balanced cane, with superb color combinations and an agreeable, velvety surface that speaks of grace and refinement. Privileged with the little difference that makes all the difference, it survived in excellent condition and with a great sense of age.
Canes with hard stone knobs first gained popularity in the late Victorian era and reached their peak around 1920. They are typically viewed as mascots and are likely to be chosen emotionally for enigmatic, personal reasons. They are also beautiful collectibles because of their variety.
