- Lot Description
Ca. Late 19th to Early 20th Century - An authentic Basque Makila defensive walking cane featuring a polished horn pommel, hand engraved brass collar and ferrule, braided leather-covered shaft and hardwood body. Handle unscrews to reveal a 2 1/4" pike blade. This example retains its destinctive leather wrapped grip section, decorative engraved brass mounts and forged iron lower fitting. The horn handle exhibits attractive age patina, while the shaft shows expecgted wear, consistent with age and use. Good antique condition with age related wear, surface scratches, oxidation to iron components, and wear to the leather wrap, no major structural issues. H. - 3/4" x 1 3/4" O.L.- 36"
