- Lot Description
Ca. 1850-1890 - A fine Victorian cane featuring shagreen (ray skin) wrapped shaft over a wooden core, retaining its distinctive textured surface and calcified nodules. The cane is further detailed with contrasting exposed spine and secured with a brass band, the handle is fitted with a silver toned dome cap that is unmarked with age appropriate patina. Shagreen canes were prized in the 19th century for their durability and exotic appeal. It is rare to find a cane such as this with spine intact in such a fine condition. H- 1 1/4x1 1/8" OL-35 3/8"
