• Lot Description
  Ca. 1900 A substantial silver handle, well crafted with a naturalistic design, features a heavy cast and intricate hand-chasing that beautifully illustrates a fox perched atop a dried wood stem. The creature is elegantly portrayed in a poised stance, showcasing exquisite details from its excessively fine chased fur coat to the delicate nuances of its nail toes. The defining features include a flattened head adorned with upright triangular ears, a pointed nose that tilts slightly upward and a long, bushy tail. A tiny “Half Moon and Crown” hallmark attests to the German origin, besides an “800” for the precious metal title. Cast figural silver handles were the top of their line, by far costlier than the standard, molded production, and the most durables.
