The refined silver handle begins with a straight, slender, cylindrical neck that transitions into a broader upper section, culminating in a striking, faceted, green oval stone. While the lower portion remains unadorned, the upper section is richly embellished with four identical bands of intricate, tracery-like filigree. Interconnected ovals, adorned with motifs resembling laurel leaves and berries, lend a delicate yet structured elegance to the design. The ornamentation culminates in an oval frieze, where bold, crown-like prongs rise to encircle the central stone in a regal frame.
The gemstone, natural or man-made, is particularly captivating, with its color shifting from green in natural daylight to blue under electric light, hinting at optical properties warranting further investigation.
The handle's style leans towards Art Nouveau, yet it possesses a New World spirit that speaks of American origins. It is locally known as the Tiffany style, also called the Liberty Style. The handle has a slender, stiff, single-piece, weighty white shaft and a brass ferrule. Its surface has a grayish hue and few apparent pores, suggesting a whale-bone-like material. However, it cannot be ruled out that it might also be man-made resin or the like. This issue requires some expert attention.
Classy and decorative, this cane attracts attention with its seamless blend of art and craft that converges in a vertical integration. It possesses a certain allure, and the unique shaft contributes to that appeal.
